Our work

The Wichita Falls Symphony League is a proud supporter of the Wichita Falls Symphony Orchestra.  A monetary donation earned through fundraisers is given to the WFSO each year. The League also financially sponsors the principal trumpeter in the orchestra. Other projects include bringing refreshments to the Thursday coffees held prior to each symphony concert.

While the League's main purpose is to raise funds for the WFSO, it also supports young musicians in the following ways. The League awards scholarships to students each year.  This consists of first, second and third place in the areas listed below.  Scholarship auditions will be held in the spring (date TBA) at Midwestern State University in the Fine Arts building.  [campus map]

  • Febe Garcia Scholarship for piano
  • Gail Key Scholarship for strings
  • Myloa Beilke Scholarship for winds and percussion
  • Pat Haywood Scholarship for voice

APPLAUSEa group formed by the League in 2003, is designed for students interested in music and stage performance. Students share their talents in plays, concerts, and other performances throughout the year.

The Wichita Falls Youth Symphony Orchestra is two performing groups of students selected through auditions (the WF Symphonic and the WF Philharmonic Orchestra which is a strings-only developmental ensemble). Under the direction of Dr. Susan Harvey (YSO) and Gina Menden (Philharmonic), they present two concerts each year, plus performances at other venues.  The group is now also strolling part of the time they perform. Each year some YSO students selected through audition practice with the WFSO and appear on stage during two concerts.

Each year the Symphony League sponsors an Instrument Petting Zoo as a means to expose third grade students to orchestral instruments and give them an opporutnity to "bow, blow and bang" on them. Specific third grade classes in the Wichita Falls ISD will have this presented in the spring semester.
